Last winter, Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge made headlines when a record-breaking 1,012 bald eagles were counted on December 30, 2025!

We are heading back to northwest Missouri for another opportunity to witness and photograph one of nature's most incredible winter wildlife spectacles. Join fellow KPPA photographers on Saturday, January 2nd, 2027, as we explore this remarkable wildlife refuge, known for its wintering bald eagles, expansive wetlands, and abundant birdlife. Along the refuge's 10-mile auto tour, we'll be watching for opportunities to photograph bald eagles in flight, perched, and hunting, along with trumpeter swans, snow geese, ducks, and other winter wildlife. Whether you're an experienced wildlife photographer or looking to try something new, this is a great opportunity to practice your skills, share tips, and enjoy a day of photography with fellow KPPA members.

Bring your camera, your longest lens, and plenty of warm layers. Wildlife sightings depend on migration patterns and weather conditions, but there's always something to discover at Loess Bluffs!
